To you, my sweet love
I will try to tell you today what it means the English language for a Latin and temperamental Portuguese man like I think I am.
The English is the most precise and concise language I know! It’s wonderful the way we can say in so few words and totally one complete when to say it in Portuguese or French or Spanish we would need a very long phrase, plenty of definitions to avoid the double senses and transforming it on something hard to penetrate and with a very difficult interpretation!
However I have some conscience that using the Portuguese I can represent my mind, my sensations and feelings by words, sometimes better sometimes worst. But express the same idea in English or in Portuguese it makes a rather big difference if we consider its number of words: - in English just some few; in Portuguese, a lot of them!
It is because the double sense is much more frequent or easy to obtain in French, or other Latin languages (I mean Latin not roman witch makes some difference for me) that, some years ago, it was consider the diplomatic language: - diplomats were taught to express nothing at all but saying many and very nice words. In our days, computers, war commands, equipment instructions, marketing concepts and the absolute absence of time have been responsible for the reinforcement of power of the English language to become the most concise language of the planet without loosing a very peculiar musicality and poetry…It is the business language, the scientific language and also the language of love.
I feel extremely happy for being able to express myself in both languages and to have on the other side someone who does exactly the same. We both have a notion that we do not need words to communicate because our feelings, English and Portuguese, they are so much involved that they don’t need anything else to feel happy and free…
May be it is “I do love you…” the other way to say “amo-te…”
